After going to discuss the housing situation with the manager, I left much madder than when I went in.  He told me that he was not allowed to offer any concessions to any tenants.  I explained why I was mad again and it did no good.

The only thing he could offer me was that there was a 2bed/2bath apartment opening up August 17th that we could move into, but the problem is I don’t want to move again in a matter of a few weeks and neither does M.  We either want a drastic price reduction or to be able to break the lease and get our money back.

The manager told me we didn’t have grounds to break the lease.  So literally the only thing they are offering us is that we can move again in a short period of time.  They will not compensate us for the price of having people help us move and they are not going to help us move the second time.  They are literally just making the situation more annoying by trying to move us.  I don’t want to live out of boxes for 2 weeks.

Today, I have to go back and talk to them and tell them they either give us a lowered rent, let us break the lease and give us the money we’ve paid back, or go to small claims court.  The problem is that if we break the lease without their permission, we are potentially out $1,000 from the security deposit, prorated July rent, internet cable contract, moving payment, and other various smaller amounts.  And then pay a new security deposit and everything else that goes with a new apartment and the filing cost of going to court.

This is not what I need to deal with this week.  I have finals in 2 and 4 days.  I need to be locked in on my books and nothing else.  I have a lot of studying that needs to be done before them and I can’t just let this apartment issue go.  If I wait until finals are over, that is July 28th, and we both have to be out on August 1st.

I don’t want to have to play lawyer this week.  Next week I’ll not be quite as mad that I have to play, but this week their is no time to spend on their mistake.
